Join Polifa’s Board – Open Call
Polifa is an international advocacy and research organization working at the intersection of democracy, freedom, and political imagination. Operating in Finland, Kenya, and across global political spaces, Polifa focuses on issues that often remain marginal in mainstream development and democracy debates — from politicization of development to democratic implications of global financial governance.
Our work includes:
- examining how political movements reshape democratic imaginaries and public participation,
- analyzing the structural inequalities embedded in global economic systems,
- contributing to debates on tax, debt and trade justice, international cooperation, and democratic accountability,
- supporting local forms of collective and circular economies and autonomous governance
- and developing educational and political tools to broaden political engagement and democratic practice and human rights
Polifa aims to democratize the global financial system and address the structural roots of inequality and poverty by connecting grassroots movements to systemic change. Central to this work is the reimagination of sovereignty and democracy – examining how power operates within global and local economic governance, how planetary democracy can be reclaimed across borders, and how new forms of collective decision-making can challenge existing geopolitical and financial hierarchies.
Governance model
Polifa is governed through a direct-democratic structure in which members have the right to propose initiatives, call debates, and participate in decision-making. The board functions as a facilitative and strategic body — coordinating activities, ensuring accountability, and supporting the organization’s international work — while major decisions are made collectively through transparent and participatory processes.
